Mark Twain spent 20 summers in Elmira writing most of his famous novels. On the Elmira College campus, visit his study and view photos and memorabilia at the Mark Twain Exhibit in Hamilton Hall. 1 Park Place, (607) 735-1941, marktwaincountry.com. Twain, his family, and both Union and Confederate Civil War soldiers rest at nearby Woodlawn National Cemetery. 1825 Davis St., Elmira, (607) 732-5411.  All are free.
