Q&A: Havertown Author Joyce Magnin

The novelist and children’s book author dishes on where to get the best fruit crêpes, the perfect vacation, and more.

Joyce Magnin, Havertown

Novelist and Children’s Book Author

Coolest thing about being a writer: When a child has read my book and loves it. Seeing their excitement when they realize they know an author and ask for my autograph is just the best.

The last thing she read: I’ve read a lot of children’s books lately. The last one was Clementine’s Letter by Sara Pennypacker. The last adult book I read was Listening for Madeleine: A Portrait of Madeleine L’Engle in Many Voices

The last thing she ate that she loved: The fresh-fruit crepe at Rachel’s Creperie in Lancaster.

Role model: My third-grade teacher. She’s the person who taught me to love words and writing.

The perfect vacation: I like water and the mountains.

Pet peeve: When I’m driving behind a car with inspection stickers all over the license plate—it looks so messy.

What she likes most about herself: I have a great sense of humor and laugh easy. I’m able to laugh at myself.

What she likes most about others: I love when I see people using the gifts they’ve been given for the benefit of others.

Words to live by: Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Magnin’s latest book, CAKE: Love, Chickens and a Taste of the Peculiar, is out now.
