Power Women 2013: Elizabeth Murphy

Vice President of Government and External Affairs, PECO

“When I came to PECO, I was at the point in my career where I really wanted a position that allowed me to do more policy development and external work,” says Elizabeth Murphy.

She certainly found what she was looking for. After six years with Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas utility, Murphy is now its vice president of government and external affairs, managing legislative lobbying activities and policies, economic development, and corporate relations. She also oversees PECO’s energy services organization (which manages the company’s largest customer accounts) and energy efficiency programs.

Before coming aboard at PECO, Murphy was chief operating officer of the Delaware River Port Authority. These days, Murphy works closely with the Public Utility Commission and officials in Philadelphia and Harrisburg on issues that impact competitive markets, emergency response and liability. “We’re all focused on the customer aspect of the work we do here at PECO,” says Murphy, who lives in Wynnewood. “Being part of a corporation that’s committed to the community makes it easy for me to be really positive about my job.”
