» Hollywood moments: This month, the cast and crew of The Lovely Bones heads to New Zealand, sadly putting an end to local star sightings like Inside Outside owner Carrie MacNamara’s encounter with Stanley Tucci (ER), who stopped by the store to browse. Rumored to be staying at the Wayne Hotel, Tucci was also spotted dining locally with fellow Lovely Bones cast member Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos).
» Random acts of kindness: Kudos to Wayne mom Cindy Kerr who, along with 10 other women, was honored recently by Martha Stewart at the first annual “Dreamers into Doers” Awards. Kerr was chosen as the grand prize recipient for her efforts with ConKerr Cancer, the non-profit organization she founded to provide whimsical hand-quilted pillowcases to children with life-threatening illnesses. Kerr’s son, Ryan, was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was 12. Over the last five years, she has transformed her unique form of personal therapy into a community effort, giving more than 14,500 pillowcases to kids at pediatric hospitals all over the country.
» Why private school pays off: Yale University senior and Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy alum Benjamin Eidelson of Bala Cynwyd was named one of 32 Rhodes Scholars for 2008. The oldest international study award available to American students, the scholarship program funds up to three years at Oxford University in England. Kimberton’s Rebecca Brubaker, a 2006 graduate of Swarthmore College, was also selected.
