Vanguard Group Managing Director Martha King looks to fashion icon Katharine Hepburn for inspiration.

Style: Fashion forward, but with a conservative overlay. In the past 15 years, fashion has become so much more interesting as women become freer to express themselves through their personal style.

Fashion icon: I love to mix ideas by observing stylish women—be they movie stars or everyday women. Katharine Hepburn had a sporty and independent look that I love.

Shopping strategy: I have girlfriends who love to shop all weekend, but I like to be more efficient. That’s why I go to places I know well and where they know me. At Posh, the team knows my build and makes suggestions. They have a great eye for style, right in my hometown.

Worth the splurge: A great pair of shoes. I have some in my closet that have lasted 20 years. My shoe guy takes wonderful care of them.

Indispensable accessory: My engagement ring, my wedding ring, and my Cartier watch. I’m never without them.

Favorite footwear: Black high-heeled sandals by Joie. They dress up a pair of jeans unbelievably and look great with a pink cocktail dress. Super comfortable, too.

Where to find her without makeup: On our farm, riding my horses. If I’m running an errand, I’ll put on a little moisturizer with a tint to it, a bit of mascara, and maybe some lip gloss.

Signature fragrance: For the past few years, I’ve been wearing J’adore. It’s gorgeous, even with jeans.

Oldest thing in her closet: I have coats and blazers that I’ve had since I was in my early 20s.

Most recent purchase: A gold statement necklace with blue stones and blue-stone post earrings. Costume jewelry, lots of fun.

What she’s wearing (at Posh Collections Malvern): Red Chaken blazer, black Sandy Duftler belt with gold hardware, nude Trina Turk pencil skirt, Diane von Furstenberg leopard-print silk tank and python-print pumps.
