Kathryn Goddard-Doms

Berwyn’s Goddard-Doms has always been passionate about marine and freshwater issues. Now, as an associate professor of biology at Ursinus College, she has enthusiastic student support for her research, not to mention the conservation efforts that consume much of her free time.
green initiatives: Two of her charges are researching the effects of a dam removal in Delaware County’s Kent Park, which they believe will increase stream life and allow fish to migrate upstream to lay their eggs. Other students are finishing a study of stream insects in Ithan Creek.
local bragging rights: Goddard-Doms and her students teach area elementary school children about stream insects and salt-marsh organisms. Every year, they spearhead stream study with ninth-graders at Marple Newtown High School, and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn gets an annual “Saving Creation” lesson on Earth Day.
green dream: “It would be great if all the school children in the Greater Philadelphia area had more opportunity to experience nature and enjoy it,” says Goddard-Doms.
