Seasonal Suds

Now that summer’s revealing bathing-suit weather is behind us, it’s time to abandon light beer and indulge in a more robust, fall-inspired brew. May we suggest Pumpkinfest from McKenzie Brew House (mckenziebrewhouse.com)?

Available through the end of October, brewmaster Ryan Michaels’ spicy ale blends fresh, mashed pumpkin, allspice, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, hops and barley—all of it delivered with a 5.5-percent kick. A McKenzie special for several years, this robust concoction goes well with a variety of seasonal fare, including chili, ribs, smoked pork chops, creamy cheesecakes, cool-weather fruit pies, gingerbread, and carrot or apple cake.

Other McKenzie brews that pair well with the season: Unicorn Amber Ale, an English-style brown ale with a caramel aroma, and silky-smooth Black Lab Stout, with hints of chocolate and coffee.
