Many know Howard Harding as the charismatic DJ Howard who, for years, has been spinning hits at school dances, weddings and other events. But with his latest venture, he’d also like to be known for selling the best workout gear on the Main Line.
Last December, Harding—a fitness enthusiast and personal trainer—opened European Fitness in Bryn Mawr, a shop devoted solely to apparel and accessories from the Swedish companies Better Bodies and GASP. “I carry only the two lines because I believe they’re making the best, highest-quality workout wear available,” says Harding, a native of Jamaica who ran competitively at Villanova University.
Harding discovered the companies while visiting Sweden a few years ago. “People there are passionate about working out,” he says. “Everyone wears clothes from these companies.”
GASP caters exclusively to men, while Better Bodies has workout wear for both sexes—everything from track jackets and hoodies to sweatpants and running pants. “These clothes are so well made that they should stay in top condition for years,” says Harding. “They also fit really well.”
His inventory is catching on at Main Line Health & Fitness, where Harding has been a member for two decades. “People are really enjoying the clothes,” he says.
And DJ Howard fans needn’t worry—he’s not quitting his night job.
