Once the site of the Bucks County jail, this world-class culture center— named for Doylestown’s prolific, Pulitzer Prize winner—is now a showcase for an extensive collection of Pennsylvania Impressionists, a stunning outdoor sculpture garden (the site of fall jazz concerts) and national touring exhibitions. $15, kids $7.50.

Fonthill Castle

Doylestown’s landmark concrete castle is celebrating its 100th year. Inside is a multiroom, floor-to-ceiling exhibit of the intricately detailed, handcrafted artistry of master tile maker Henry Mercer. Spooky moonlight tours are offered in October. $12; kids $6.

Mercer Museum

More than 40,000 everyday tools, household objects and other items depict the lives and work of Americans before the Industrial Revolution. The Animals on the Loose exhibit invites kids ages 3-8 on an interactive, museum-wide adventure. Halloween-themed moonlight tours are offered in October. $10; kids $6. Pearl S. Buck House

Tour the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and humanitarian’s 1825 stone farmhouse, with its personal collections of American and Asian art and furnishings. From late November to early December, the juried Treasures and Traditions Holiday Craft Show presents the works of local artisans. $9; students $6.

Pennsbury Manor

Take a guided tour of William Penn’s 17th-century, period-furnished manor and kitchen houses. Sundays in October, special events highlight historic trades, open-hearth cooking and more. $7; kids $4.
