A Leg Up

Pants in Bryn Mawr

Main Line native Jon Segal knew there had to be other men out there who liked to shop—for clothes, that is, not just at Home Depot. He also noticed the dearth of retail options for fashion-forward guys like himself. So with his wife’s encouragement, he opened Pants in Bryn Mawr. The shop is just above Skirt, so naturally he’s also hoping that some of the loyal female clientele from the popular women’s boutique will find their way upstairs. “People are tired of having to travel to King of Prussia Mall and shop at chain stores to find men’s clothing,” says Segal.

The interior of Pants is no-frills—simple and masculine with deep-blue walls, a plush leather couch and a 42-inch TV for weekend shoppers who want to catch a glimpse of whatever sports events are in season. Segal has filled his racks with designer weekend wear from names like AG Jeans, Splendid Mills (soft cotton T-shirts) and Lacoste (polo shirts). Men who aren’t mandated to wear a suit at the office will appreciate the extensive selection of button-down shirts, pants and sports coats from Theory.

Accessories include Lois Hill sterling silver rings, dog-tag necklaces and cuff bracelets. Customers have been raving about the messenger and duffle bags from Japan’s Hideo Wakamatsu. And you’ll find balms and chrome razors from Art of Shaving. “I wanted to design a store where I would want to shop,” says Segal.
