15 Free Main Line Area Summer Concerts You Won’t Want to Miss

These festivals offer jazz to rock, and everything in between.

Summer Sounds in the Historic District 
June 1 – Sept. 7, Philadelphia

Catch live music all around Philly this season thanks to Summer Sounds in the Historic District. The series offers shows in various locations, from Old City to Society Hill to the Delaware River waterfront and area held W­ednesday through Sunday evenings. Among the highlights are the Beats DJ Series featuring Rich Medina and DJ Sylo, plenty of jazz from artists including Tim Brey, and even Latin music from Los Rumberitos and more.

Eagleview Town Center Free Concert Series
June 5 – Aug. 28, Exton

Every Tuesday in June, July and August, live music acts will take the stage at Eagleview Town Center. Performers include All Our Exes Live in Texas, Molly Tuttle, Dirk Quin, and Tumbleweed. The series has a country edge and welcomes all ages, with a kids’ night on July 24. The final August show features Nick Greely and the Operators and spectacular fireworks for a proper summer sendoff.

Narberth Summer Concert Series
June 6 – Aug. 1, Narberth

Classic rock band the Zing Kings will kick off the Narberth Summer Concert Series. Small snacks will be for sale throughout the summer, and the series ends with the annual strawberry shortcake celebration, the Strawberry Festival. These Wednesday shows will be held at the Chet Tyson Pavilion at 7 p.m.

Phoenixville Summer Music Series
June 8 – Aug. 31, Phoenixville

Make Friday nights even better with the Phoenixville Summer Music Series. The series features performances from Minneapolis rock band Five Minute Major, Phoenixville cover band Less Than Seven, and bluegrass group Raven Hill Ramblers. The street performances, held all over downtown Phoenixville, will undoubtedly entertain audience members as well as those out for a casual stroll. Stop by from 6-9 p.m.

Malvern Summer Stage
June 13 – July 11, Malvern

Valley Creek Park will feature live music and a beer garden on four Wednesday evenings in June and July. The Malvern Summer Stage includes musicians like C.J. Chenier, an accordion player who has recorded music with Paul Simon and Ringo Starr, and Damn the Torpedoes, a Tom Petty cover band. Shows are from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Rose Tree Summer Festival
June 13 – Aug. 12, Media

Since 1975, live music has filled the warm summer air of Rose Tree Park. The Delaware County Summer Festival offers free music at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday nights. Two 10 a.m. children’s shows will be held on June 20 and June 28. The festival offers a wide range of genres. This year acts include Aqua String Band, Reggae Thunder, 22 Park Avenue: Swinging Through Hollywood, and Beatles in Bassa Nova. Bring the kids and a lawn chair and enjoy the open-air theater.

Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts
June 15, Bryn Mawr

The Twilight Concerts series runs through July 28, with most concerts costing $15 (though kids 16 and under are free). On June 15, the Merion Concert Band will play a free for all ages show. The band, founded in 1977, is considered one of the finest concert bands in the area. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. on the Bryn Mawr Gazebo.

Pastorius Park Concerts
June 20 – July 25, Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill hosts the oldest open-air concert series in Philadelphia on Wednesday nights. Celebrate 70 years of summer song in the gorgeous Pastorius Park. The concert series prevails rain or shine, and will take place at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy’s Cherokee Campus if rained out. RUNA, an Irish super group, will take the stage on July 11; the Luke Carlos O’Reilly Quintet plays on July 18.

Summer Concert Series at Anson B. Nixon Park
June 20 – Aug. 8, Kennett Square

Also on Wednesday nights is Anson B. Nixon Park’s Summer Concert Series. Watch performances in the parks’ pavilion, overlooking a scenic pond. Shows run from 7-9 p.m. and local restaurants will cater picnic-style meals. Listen to everything from updated classic jazz band Matt Cappy Quintet, to Latin folk rock group Radio Free Honduras, to alternative country band Hurricane Hoss.

Summer Concert Series at Wilson Farm Park
June 21 – July 26, Wayne

The Shire Pavilion at Wilson Farm Park will be filled with live music on Thursday nights in late June and July. Starting at 7 p.m., premier live bands take the stage. The series includes Billy Joel tribute band River of Dreams and Missouri rock group the Open Road. A special Fourth of July celebration will feature the Chester County Concert Band.

Marshall Square Park Summer Concert Series
June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, West Chester

Marshall Square Park will host musicians every third Thursday in June, July, and August for this concert series. Vince Brown Band will headline the first Thursday concert and the music will be accompanied by a community potluck and picnic. Gemelli will provide a gelato truck for dessert. Enjoy great music, food, and atmosphere from 6-8 p.m.

Summer Concert in the Park East Brandywine Township
June 23, July 21, Aug. 4,  East Brandywine

East Brandywine Township is back for the sixth year to present the Summer Concert in the Park series. The summer begins with Panama Rex, a Jimmy Buffet tribute group. Walton Marquette Project will perform rock music on July 21. The popular Evolution of Country Music Show will serve as the grand finale, showcasing the music of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Blake Shelton, the Eagles, and more. 

Upper Merion’s Concert Under the Stars
June 24 – Aug. 5, Upper Merion

Sunday nights will swing with song at the Upper Merrion 34th Annual Concert Under the Stars. Listen to the woodsy acoustic styling of Hoots and Hellmouths on June 24, the rollicking soul music of the York Street Hustle on July 8, and the folksy strumming of Craig Bickhardt’s Friends and Family on July 29. The Beer Garden opens at 5 p.m. and concerts start at 6 p.m.

Radnor Summer Concert
July 11, Wayne

Nine piece orchestra, Chico’s Vibe, will take the main stage at Clem Macrone Park for the 2018 Radnor Summer Concert. Their music covers several decades and genres, and their showmanship keeps the crowd engaged. The concert will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with a rain date of July 12.

12th Annual Lancaster Jazz & Arts Festival
July 21, Philadelphia

Enjoy an audio and visual experience at the 12th Annual Lancaster Jazz & Arts Festival  at Philadelphia’s Saunders Park. The artists’ and children’s villages are sure to delight audiences of all ages, and a number of food trucks will be parked to provide fuel for the day. The event promises different styles of jazz. Artists include Lee Mo, Mathew Clayton, and Phoenix Mystique. Festivities begin at 12 p.m.
