The scoop: Originally constructed in 1915 as an apartment building on the site of renowned philanthropist William Bucknell’s home, the Latham just underwent a much-needed multimillion-dollar renovation. Eight of the original 138 rooms have been converted to suites—and while the standard rooms are still on the small side, they’re loaded with Euro-style, boutique-caliber charm.

Amenities: Car service, a fitness center, in-room Keurig coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi.

Don’t miss: Chef Dan Orvis’ Italian-themed small plates at the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Urban Enoteca. Then hop in the back of the Latham’s black Audi and head to the Academy of Music for the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Giselle (Oct. 18-21, 27-28), or to the Wilma Theatre for stark interpretation of the Tony Award-winning Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika (thru Oct. 21).
