WHYY’s New TV Series Lets Diners Be Restaurant Critics

Check, Please! will begin airing on Jan. 9 and features a few local favorites.

Local diners offer up their takes on area restaurants on the new TV show, Check, Please! The WHYY series will debut on Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The first season features 39 restaurants in the greater Philadelphia area, as well as Delaware. Main Liners will recognize a few local establishments, including Villanova’s Azie.

Hosted by noted food and travel writer Kae Lani Palmisano, each episode takes viewers on a tour of the region’s lively and diverse dining scene. “This region has some of the best restaurants in the world and many of them are tucked into neighborhoods where only the locals know how good they are,” says Palmisano. “On our show, you’ll see local food lovers chatting about what makes a restaurant special, forgettable and everything in between.”

In each episode, three local diners—not professional restaurant critics—choose their favorite restaurants for other guests to visit anonymously and come to their own conclusions. “We are thrilled to offer viewers a vibrant picture of both the hot spots and the hidden gems of the local restaurant scene,” says Terri Murray, vice president of programming and production at WHYY.
