The scoop: This property began as a tavern. It was a major stop on the Underground Railroad and also became the first Confederate hospital during the Civil War. Furnishings are elegant, and guests are greeted with a glass of champagne and a seat by the fire. If you’re hoping for a ghostly encounter, sightings have been reported in Room 1, The Hallows.
Amenities: Full breakfast and afternoon tea are included with your stay. The inn’s on-site restaurant serves American cuisine with French accents. Some rooms provide panoramic views of the Gettysburg battlefields. Jacuzzis are available.
Don’t miss: Every Friday, the inn hosts a five-course wine dinner in its extensive cellar. Or get a taste of Gettysburg’s culinary specialties during a one-mile, three-hour walk and sampling with Savor Gettysburg Food Tours. Fifteen minutes north, the National Apple Harvest Festival is held the first two full weekends in October.
