Location: 301 S. Union Ave., Havre de Grace, Md.
Drive time: A little more than an hour.
Cost: $129-$159 (double occupancy) for rooms and suites.
The scoop: Situated where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay, the tiny maritime town of Havre de Grace is just the place for a laid-back getaway. At the Vandiver Inn, you can stay in one of eight guest rooms and suites (some with fireplaces) in the main 1886 mansion. If you want a Jacuzzi, ask for the Kent or Murphy guesthouse.
Amenities: Rates include a full breakfast. On Monday evenings, the inn serves a $19 four-course dinner in its dining room and on its front porch or outside pavilion. Keep an eye out for wine tastings, beer dinners and jazz performances.
Don’t miss: Ride the Skipjack Martha Lewis, one of the only remaining working oyster dredges in the country. Take a trip back in time during Medieval Days at Steppingstone Farm Museum (May 14-15). And be sure to try an award-winning cone at the family-owned Bomboy’s ice cream shop.
