The scoop: This 1928 building was once home to such lauded owners as John Steinbeck, Thomas Mann and F. Scott Fitzgerald. After a $30 million restoration, it opened last fall as a luxury boutique hotel that pays homage to its artistic past. The Murray Hill location allows for an easy walk to landmarks like Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and the Museum of Modern Art.
Amenities: Loft-style rooms and suites offer plenty of space, with some featuring private balconies. An on-site restaurant serves upscale comfort food in a casual neighborhood setting.
Don’t miss: Ice-skating at nearby Rockefeller Center. Sample the specialties of 50 restaurants at the Metropolitan Pavilion during the Choice Eats Tasting Event on March 11. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades and festivals throughout the city.
