The land at Whitewing Farm was worked as far back as the 18th century by an early Quaker farming family, who raised cattle and created one of the nation’s first arboretums. By the mid-20th century, it became part of the original Longwood Gardens. Its owners, then the Du Pont family, sold 44 adjacent acres to Russell and Bertha Pippen for what became the original Whitewing Farm.
Today, the land and inn are owned by Lance and Sandy Shortt, who created the modern inn. Inspired by Hunt Country elegance, this romantic escape in the Brandywine Valley has 11 rooms each offering their own distinct vibes and amenities through comfort, luxury and serenity.
Specials include breakfast in bed, warm cookies and milk delivered to your door, wine and a blanket with a s’mores kit to roast at the fire pit and more. Be sure to check out the pool and spa during the warmer months in addition to the fishing pond and tennis courts.
