The newly dubbed “backyard edition” features 48 breweries offering sips to drink at home.

A beloved institution in Kennett Square for over 20 years, the Kennett Brewfest draws dozens of top-notch breweries and suds lovers from around the region each fall and at its offshoot Kennett Winterfest in February. This year, due to the pandemic, the organizers have shifted the in-person tasting event to a take-home one they’ve dubbed the “backyard edition.” In this iteration, hopheads can purchase one or two limited edition cases of beer which collectively feature bottles from 48 breweries. Cases will be available to pick up on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“Our pivot to the Kennett Backyard Brewfest will allow our loyal beer-loving patrons the opportunity to enjoy what will be, in essence, our legendary ‘Connoisseur Tasting’ in a case—in the comfort and safety of their own homes among socially distanced family and friends,” says Brewfest organizer Jeff Norman.

Those interested in acquiring a case must purchase a ticket online in advance. Tickets will be for sale starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 7 and are $105 each. One Kennett case includes brews from local favorites 2SP Brewing Company, Braeloch Brewing, Conshohocken Brewing Company, La Cabra Brewing, Levante Brewing Company, Sly Fox, Sterling Pig Brewery and Stolen Sun. The Brewfest case has brews from Ambler Beer Company, East Branch Brewing Company, Warrick Farm Brewing and Workhorse Brewing Company, among others.

The pivot to this new format garnered support from a slew of usual participants, including West Chester’s Levante Brewing. “We feel it demonstrates an innovative spirit to provide an exceptional craft beer opportunity for everyone but, most importantly, also demonstrates a focus on preserving the health and safety of everyone,” says co-owner Jim Adams.

As usual, proceeds benefit nonprofit Historic Kennett Square, which supports businesses in the borough. “We’re excited to give people the opportunity to support both Historic Kennett Square and the brewers—and also, of course, to enjoy a phenomenal selection of craft beers they’ll never see in these two unique combinations in mixed cases again,” adds Norman.
