Helping your student develop the mindset for academic success is no easy task. Luckily, the faculty and staff at Saint Mark’s High School offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for students. In order to help students not only prepare for admission but also for success in higher education, Saint Mark’s employs a holistic approach to the education of the young person, striving to empower students’ minds as well as their bodies, hearts and souls.

Below are three highlights of Saint Mark’s college preparatory curriculum.

1. New partnership with The University of Delaware College of Health Sciences

Beginning in the Fall 2016, Saint Mark’s has partnered with the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences, allowing students to take courses in the College of Health Sciences on Saint Mark’s campus during the school day. Instructors and professors from the university teach the courses, with two courses being offered in the first semester and one in the second semester. Students enrolled in these courses will receive full college credit from the University of Delaware as well as high school credit from Saint Mark’s.

While many high schools in the state of Delaware (including Saint Mark’s) offer the E110 college English course from the university, Saint Mark’s is the first in the state to offer its students courses from UD’s College of Health Sciences. The college credits can be applied to matriculation at the University of Delaware or transferred to another college or university. The courses include “Introduction To Health Sciences” and “Nutrition Concepts.”

2. Advanced Placement (AP) classes

Saint Mark’s offers the opportunity to test in over 20 College Board Advanced Placement courses. Saint Mark’s students in AP courses may, at the discretion of the college or university they choose to attend, receive college credit for classes taken in high school.

3. The Saint John Neumann Scholars Program

Following their freshman year, academically eligible Saint Mark’s students are offered the opportunity to pursue study as part of the Saint John Neumann Scholars Program at Saint Mark’s High School. Requirements for this most rigorous program of studies may be pursued in either of two “strands”—Math and Science or Humanities and Fine Arts, according to ability and interest. The Saint John Neumann Scholars Program is designed to involve gifted students at the highest level of academic study while simultaneously providing opportunities for original research or composition, and exposure to cultural programs outside of the school.

Saint Mark’s, a college preparatory Catholic high school, inspires young men and women to create a better world, one more pleasing to God and more helpful to others, by modeling faith, excellence, humility and integrity.
