The Emmys

Emmy nominees won’t be officially announced until July 17, but the “short lists” of finalists have already leaked and circulated on the blogosphere. What would we do without the Internet?

Here’s my 2 cents about the way these short lists shook out:

» I love how 30 Rock turns up a million times, even though the show isn’t a ratings blockbuster. I hope this will get people to tune in because, if I’m being honest, Tina Fey is probably my hero.

» It’s interesting to see that Heroes is on the list despite apparently having no notable performers.

» I find Bryan Cranston appearance for Breaking Bad notable because I’ve never heard of Breaking Bad. Anyone seen it? Is it good?

» On the other hand, I’m not surprised at all to see all the nods to Mad Men. The New York Times Magazine recently put the show on its cover and heaped on fawning praise, so I’d be shocked if Jon Hamm doesn’t end up nominated. (Fortunately, New York magazine’s fawning cover story about Gossip Girl didn’t seem to have any Emmy influence.)

» I’m personally a huge fan of Michael Emerson on Lost, so I hope he comes through with a nomination. He’s so creepy! More than my love for Lost, though, is my love for Pushing Daisies (pictured below). My heart melts a little every time it comes on. The show was put on hold after the writers’ strike, so I’m in serious withdrawal. I hope it’ll get some Emmy attention and return with a big audience.

Stay tuned to see if any of these “short list” names turn into real nominees. If you’re interested, the full lists are below, courtesy of the “Gold Derby” coverage of the LA Times. Let me know what your personal faves are, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you on Emmy night.
