A Chester County Golf Club’s Renewal: Henck Design’s Remarkable Update

When she first visited RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve in 2019, Christina Henck’s interior designer’s eye couldn’t help but evaluate the well-known and respected venue’s incredible possibilities.

Flash forward to 2020, and the devastating pandemic that brought the entire hospitality industry to a halt, including RiverCrest. The Phoenixville club had long been a premier wedding venue for Philadelphia, Chester, and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania. When its owners decided to take advantage of their enforced hiatus by renovating, they called the leading interior design firm, Henck Design. Their request: transform the venue’s key spaces by creating neutral yet elegant entertaining areas—perfect for weddings and special events.

“My primary goal from the start was to renovate in order to restore charm while creating a space that appeals to a new generation,” Henck remarked.

First up, the bridal suite. Henck decided to reinvent the space with a fresh, feminine, and romantic aesthetic. This included all-new finishes such as wallpaper with a stunning metallic pattern— and bespoke built-ins, such as a series of vanity mirrors flanked by elegant wall sconces and a full salon bar with streamlined chrome stools in a soft, sophisticated palette. The attention to detail will ensure that every bride—and her attendants—feels glamorous and at ease while being pampered at this up-to-date hair and makeup station.

Henck also softened the bridal suite with custom window treatments and frosted windows, allowing natural light to suffuse throughout the room while also ensuring that the space stays private.

The reception area is, by definition, a crucial element of the introductory ambiance at any venue, and RiverCrest Golf Club was no exception. Here, Henck blended elegance and neutrality with customized gold and ivory wallpapers that wrap around the space, setting the scene for the design delights that characterize the remainder of the RiverCrest experience. A magnificent fireplace serves as both a focal point and a gathering site where guests can meet, mingle and enjoy one another’s company. Henck’s inspired choice of paint color, “Storm Cloud” by Sherwin Williams, ties in the adjacent abstract art at the same time it inspires the intimate area’s cozy, conversational vibe.

Throughout the fashionable Phoenixville country club are tasteful greenery, dozens of striking light fixtures, and tailor-made window treatments, each carefully chosen by the Henck Design team to support the setting’s showpieces—breathtaking features such as the ballroom’s oversize chandeliers and impressive coffered ceilings.

One of the lofty reception area’s most extraordinary details, hands down, has to be the custom carpet. Curated and developed by Christina Henck, working in inspired tandem with her talented team members, this one-of-a-kind flooring was crafted to complement the existing carpet designs of the adjacent ballroom and circulation area. “In order to achieve a modernized look, I had to find a happy medium between the outdated traditional & anything too modern,” said Henck. “Adding transitional design elements like this custom carpet created the perfect balance to bring this space up to date while also allowing for conventional occasions. The blend from old to new was our greatest achievement for this hospitality interior design project.”

When the wedding party and the revelers step inside the ballroom, their eyes will land upon enchanting, fairy-tale touches: traditional millwork, thoughtful color stories adorning the walls flanked by fabulous floor-to-ceiling draperies, all courtesy of Henck’s capacious imagination.

The Henck Design team has successfully blended transitional design motifs with contemporary color palettes and thoroughly reimagined furnishings. In so doing, they’ve elevated this hospitality interior design project in the heart of Philadelphia’s most storied and illustrious suburban landscape.
