That is a question Steve Schiffman poses to anyone with a jewelry box. Mr. Schiffman, owner of D. Atlas Estates in Haverford, has been buying and selling fine jewelry for almost fifty years, a passion that began as a young child. “My father owned a pawn shop in Philadelphia, and I spent a lot of time there as a kid,” said Mr. Schiffman. “I loved sorting through the eclectic assortment of items in the shop and was particularly fascinated by the jewelry. I really fell in love with it at a young age.”
Mr. Schiffman’s passion for jewelry grew throughout adulthood while working at his father’s Philadelphia shop and traveling extensively. In fact, he credits his overseas travel with providing a first-hand education about the history of jewelry. “Trips to London, Japan, Brazil, and elsewhere really broadened my knowledge of the jewelry business,” continued Mr. Schiffman. “This gave me a unique global perspective and taught me a great deal about every aspect of buying and selling fine jewelry.”
“Steve provided me with excellent service, honest and fair. Absolutely positive experience. I was treated extremely well and came out feeling I got a fair price for the items I sold. Very easy pleasant transaction. I definitely recommend him and D Atlas without hesitation.” Y.W.
Mr. Schiffman now serves as President of D. Atlas Estates, which was founded in 2002 and is a renowned fine jewelry buyer in the Greater Philadelphia area. At D. Atlas Estates, each item of jewelry is recognized for its uniqueness, not merely valued as a piece of gold or silver. Drawing upon years of expertise and a worldwide network of jewelry buyers, Mr. Schiffman is dedicated to offering his customers the highest price for their fine jewelry items.
“Most people associate their jewelry with a life event, such as an anniversary or birthday, which makes it sentimental,” continued Mr. Schiffman. “But many of these sentimental pieces—including family heirlooms—end up collecting dust in a jewelry box because styles change, or lifestyles change. Fine jewelry is an asset. And if the jewelry isn’t going to be worn, then it is an unrealized asset. I encourage my customers to consider what they could do with that money that would be more meaningful to them.”
D. Atlas Estates specializes in purchasing fine jewelry of any type, size, and style, from diamonds to estate pieces. Mr. Schiffman meets with clients individually in a private and secure setting by appointment only. All jewelry is evaluated with consideration given to brand, market value, raw materials, the jewelry’s condition, and any documents or boxes accompanying a designer brand. After the jewelry is assessed, Mr. Schiffman makes an offer to purchase those pieces on the spot. D. Atlas Estates guarantees the best prices will be paid for each piece of jewelry.
