Someone who has suffered from allergies since childhood may do his or her best to avoid them in adulthood, but not Dr. Nora Lin. She decided to make allergy/immunology her career. But that wasn’t the only thing that drew her to the profession—she also loves being a detective. “A lot of it is asking the right questions,” she says.

Dr. Lin enjoys the continuity of care within the allergy specialty, too. “Allergies tend to run in the family, so it’s neat to see how allergies tend to manifest in the same families,” she says.

Dr. Lin has been a physician with Allergy & Asthma SpecialistsSM for 11 years. “It is a very caring group of individuals that want to meet the needs of patients and provide state-of-the-art care,” she says.

Dr. Lin says that the trickiest part about her job is educating her patients. “The presence of the Internet is very challenging. So many people use it as a source of medical information, and it can be tricky to undo that,” she says.

So Dr. Lin makes education one of her priorities when it comes to her patients. “Our primary job is not just to diagnose and treat patients, but to also educate them,” she says.

Dr Lin also enjoys being part of an extraordinary medical practice. Allergy & Asthma SpecialistsSM is on the forefront of a number of allergy procedures not offer elsewhere. For example, Allergy & Asthma SpecialistsSM is currently offering a peanut-allergy desensitization program for people with a peanut allergy. It requires patients to put a prescribed number of drops of peanut extract under their tongues once a day. “It helps patients build up a tolerance and increase their threshold,” she says.

Although it is not a cure, it reduces a patient’s anxiety if they happen to eat a food that is contaminated.

Dr. Nora Lin received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and her medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia and her fellowship in allergy/clinical immunology at the University of Michigan, where she received awards for her allergy research and teaching. She continues to be involved in numerous research studies and is a published author.

Dr. Lin is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the Pennsylvania Allergy and Asthma Association, and the Philadelphia Allergy Society.

Dr. Lin is a physician with Allergy & Asthma SpecialistsSM , a group practice with eight locations in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. She sees patients of all ages in the Blue Bell, King of Prussia, Lansdale and Doylestown offices.
