If you are on a craft-beer kick, don’t think you have to give up your favorite elegant-dining destinations. More and more people like a nice beer with dinner just as much as oenophiles enjoy wine, and restaurateurs are taking note. In fact, Ann Kolenick, the proprietor of the Gables at Chadds Ford, recently installed a new beer system, with eight taps that she rotates on a consistent basis. Below is what you can expect the next time you visit the Gables.

Dabble during happy hour—the deals are good.

Don’t miss happy hour, which runs 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Check the website for all the deals, which change daily, but expect $2 off all draught beer and $3 off all glasses of wine.

What’s on tap?

Kolenick says the beer selection is in constant rotation, but the taps typically feature craft beer or a local beer. “I work with a local distributing company, and their advice is amazing,” says Kolenick.

She understands that her customers enjoy everything from strong IPAs to lower alcohol IPAs. And if customers don’t see a favorite on tap, they should check what is on deck, which will surely get their mouths watering. If you cannot decide, try a flight, which offers four 5-ounce pours for $10. “It’s a good sample, and you will always find something new that you like,” says Kolenick.

The bottled-beer variety is also first-rate.

There are plenty of bottled craft beers to try, including Free Will Brewing’s The Kragle IPA, Tröegs DreamWeaver Wheat, Lagunitas Brewing Company’s New Dogtown Pale Ale, and Victory Prima Pils. If you want to keep it simple, there’s enough Budweiser, Yuengling, Miller Lite and Coors Light to go around.

Go with an appetite.

There is a different happy-hour food special Tuesday-Friday, which is a good excuse to go whenever a craving hits. On Thursdays, for example, the shrimp-and-grits martinis and confit duck fries are half price. On Fridays, savor half-price Atlantic mussels and half-price cheesesteak egg rolls. Stay when happy hour ends on Thursdays and Fridays to enjoy live piano, also featured on Saturday evenings.

The Gables at Chadds Ford offers American fare with French influences and some Southern flair in a rustic country setting. Patrons can enjoy fresh, seasonal cuisine for lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch. Happy-hour specials help make unwinding after work particularly easy, and the experienced staff can make any special event one to remember.
