It may be that sharp whiff of peat and smoke more than the actual taste—but, whatever the reason, whiskey can be a polarizing proposition. For the hardened skeptics, there’s Georges’ bartender Josh Hantman, whose whiskey cocktails might just win you over.
With its pastel-green hue, Hantman’s “Irish Eyes” is a St. Patty’s Day stalwart, combining an ounce of Michael Collins Irish whiskey with a quarter-ounce of green crème de menthe and two ounces of cream. Or play it safe and try an Irish coffee, with a shot of whiskey and cool whipped cream to soothe the burn.
Hantman also recommends throwing cranberry-, cherry- and orange-flavored liqueurs and juices into the shaker. Try his Woodford Reserve black-cherry Manhattan any day of the year.
