This Winter Wedding in West Chester Celebrates Faith and Family

Nine years after meeting, a Conshohocken couple ties the knot with a classic winter ceremony and reception.

A wedding day centered around faith and family was essential for Megan McLaughlin and Ryan Coonahan. The two met in a freshmen theology class at the University of Scranton, and both were graduates of Catholic institutions in the area—Megan from Villa Maria Academy High School and Ryan from La Salle College High School. The Conshohocken couple married nine years after their first meeting, just a few days after Christmas.

Before the pair’s Dec. 28 ceremony at West Chester’s Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Megan prepped at her parents’ nearby home, stepping into a classically elegant strapless gown. The team at Paoli’s Van Cleve Bridal & Evening Wear paired a high-neck, long-sleeve lace overlay with the dress. “I really wanted the long sleeves but also the option to take them off later after the ceremony,” says Megan.

A dozen bridesmaids led the bride down the aisle, along with Megan’s niece, who’s also her goddaughter. “I had the biggest smile on my face,” Megan recalls. “It was really special being surrounded by the many family and friends we love so much.”

Later, guests made their way to the Ballroom at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square to celebrate. In keeping with the timeless winter theme, sparkler fountains illuminated the entrance as the pair made their way into the reception. Settings were black and white, and the couple sat at a sweetheart table at the head of the dance floor.

“I’m usually pretty nervous for big events or moments in my life, but I had such a calm feeling on my wedding day,” says Megan. “I was just so excited to marry Ryan.”
