Two Main Line Eateries are Saying Goodbye

Doc Magrogan’s and Ella’s American Bistro are both closing their doors.

We’re sad to report that two of our favorite places to dine are closing. Ella’s American Bistro in  Wayne has already closed its doors. Known for new American cuisine interpreted through a contemporary French vision, Ella’s adept kitchen perfectly balanced classical flavors with locally grown and seasonally sourced ingredients. We’ll especially miss having Ella’s old-school cocktails at the cozy bar.

Also closing is Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House, officially shuttering on May 1. Owner Dave Magrogan is closing the West Chester outpost after 10 successful years in the borough. In the last year, Magrogan has sold West Chester’s Kildare’s, Downingtown’s Barra Rossa (now Milito’s Ristorante) and also Center City’s Barra Rossa (10th and Walnut streets) to manager Nick Longobardi. The restaurateur is focusing his efforts on the opening of a new Doc’s in Sea Isle City, N.J., this Memorial Day, and the expansion of his Harvest Seasonal Grill and Wine Bar concept along the East Coast. The Radnor location (555 E. Lancaster Ave.) will open on May 20.

Doc’s will be celebrating for the next two weeks with Buck a Shuck specials and will throw a big farewell party on Saturday, April 30. All Doc’s gift cards can be used at the other four Doc’s locations in University City, Scranton, Dover, Del. and Sea Isle City, N.J.

Our Best of the Main Line Elimination Ballot is open through February 22!
