In overcoming her own struggles with her body, Tracy Ashdale has become a champion of positivity. The Lower Gwynedd resident founded two chapters of Girls on the Run in Montgomery and Delaware counties, a positive youth development program. The national organization’s 10-week program helps girls get a handle on their emotions while preparing them for a 5K run in a non-competitive atmosphere.
One of three girls, Ashdale also has three daughters of her own. “I was the 9-year-old girl who was in a place of turmoil, confusion,” she recalls, helping her understand what young girls are facing today.
Ashdale was a certified family and marriage therapist before turning to her latest endeavor. “Girls on the Run felt like a deep breath, a place where we could cultivate a sacred space for young girls to grapple with all that was running through their heads,” she says. “Every girl is inherently full of potential. With help understanding that they can be the leaders of their own lives, they can change the messages being played in their minds.”
