>> PIECE OF THE PIE: The Washington-based MOD Pizza is expanding to the East Coast, opening no less than six area locations in 2015. Two are coming to Wayne (Gateway Shopping Center and Lancaster Avenue) and one to Glen Mills (Brandywine Mills).
>> ON A ROLL: Pretty soon, a famed Philly sandwich tradition will be more accessible to suburbanites. Later this year, Tony Luke Jr. will debut his newest location in Manayunk, taking over the former home of Main Street Munchies.
>> FOOD ON THE SQUARE: Don’t look now, but Ardmore’s Suburban Square is experiencing a restaurant boom. The chef-driven Not Your Average Joe’s chain has debuted its second area location in the 5,000- square-foot home of the former movie theater. In early March, The Saint James unveiled its rebrand: an approachable wood-fired concept called Parlor Pizza Bar. And by late spring, upscale Mexican eatery Besito will have taken over the former home of Plate. Also be on the lookout for a Capital Teas micro-shop, with its inventory of more than 200 loose varieties, infusions from 18 countries, and a even a sniffing wall.
