Wedding date: July 10, 2020
After Mike Petro hired Sarah Fell at Chester County’s Triple Fresh Market & Catering in 2013, both ended up with so much more than a simple business arrangement. As things progressed, the couple moved to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands to work in food and hospitality. Thousands of miles from home, their relationship survived two battering hurricanes and five months without power. “We figured if we could make it last together through that, we were good to go,” says Sarah.
After more than two years on the island, the couple returned home last spring. Under the guise of a going-away party in St. Thomas, Mike popped the question. Dire Straits’ “Romeo and Juliet” played as they danced and sipped champagne. On a subsequent road trip across the United States, the couple stopped in Nashville, where Sarah found the cowboy boots she’d wear on her big day.
Working in the wedding industry, the couple has a special place in their hearts for West Chester’s Faunbrook Bed & Breakfast. “We just love it there, love working there, love being there,” says Mike.
Originally setting a date for May 8, they knew by April that it was no longer possible. As COVID-19 restrictions loosened, they bumped the date to July. On a rainy day, the skies finally cleared just before Sarah walked down the aisle, her brother-in-law playing “Romeo and Juliet” as she made her way to the front.
Their guest list trimmed from 65 to 35, the two exchanged vows, presided over by Mike’s grandfather. Many of the details they’d planned were still part of their day, including Victorian-inspired mirrors with calligraphy. Sarah’s father forged the flower rings, and Sarah’s mother and sister completed them at their floral business.
“There wasn’t anything that could’ve made us feel like we were in a pandemic that day,” says Sarah.
