On his second full-length CD, that embrace comes in the form of ample hooks, punchy arrangements, and the perfect balance of snarky, self-depreciating wit and earnest singer/songwriter angst. Apparently, Karaban has made some friends on the West Coast: WXPN favorite Ani DiFranco sings and plays on one track, and Toad the Wet Sprocket’s Glen Phillips co-wrote two. File under world-weary, Beatlesque pop.

A labor of love for its author, the book features some terrific black-and-white photographs of homes, churches and functional art (like the ornate, baroque pewter candlesticks made by a Lancaster-based pewterer), accompanied by a fair amount of local history.
