These Local High Schools Took Top Spots on the U.S. News Annual Report

Twenty-five public schools in Philadelphia’s western suburbs were ranked in the top 100 for the state.

U.S. News and World Report recently released its 2019 Best High School rankings, and, once again, Main Line and western suburbs schools were ranked highly for both the state and the country. The annual list uses data like graduation rates, standardized test scores and underserved student performance to rank more than 17,000 public high schools throughout the United States.

One local school, Downingtown STEM Academy, even cracked the top 100 high schools in the country. That institution, which opened in 2011, was ranked second in the state and 39th nationally. Downingtown STEM, which is part of the Downingtown Area School District, enrolls 791 students in grades 9-12, with a 100 percent graduation rate.

In total, 25 local high schools were ranked in the top 100 for Pennsylvania, out of 688 total schools. They include:

Downingtown STEM Academy (Downingtown Area School District): 2nd in the state and 29th in the country

Radnor High School (Radnor Township School District): 3rd in the state and 237th in the country

Conestoga High School (Tredyffrin-Easttown School District): 5th in the state and 298th in the country

Strath Haven High School (Wallingford-Swarthmore School District): 6th in the state and 323rd in the country

Unionville High School (Unionville-Chadds Ford School District): 7th in the state and 329th in the country

Great Valley High School (Great Valley School District): 22nd in the state and 796th in the country

Harriton High School (Lower Merion School District): 25th in the state and 845th in the country

Spring-Ford Senior High School (Spring-Ford Area School District): 26th in the state and 939th in the country

Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School (Colonial School District): 27th in the state and 942nd in the country

Lower Merion High School (Lower Merion School District): 28th in the state and 961st in the country

Renaissance Academy Charter School (Renaissance Academy Charter School): 33rd in the state and 1,093rd in the country

Perkiomen Valley High School (Perkiomen Valley School District): 34th in the state and 1,102nd in the country

Haverford High School (Haverford Township School District): 35th in the state and 1,110th in the country

West Chester East High School (West Chester Area School District): 36th in the state and 1,115th in the country

Garnet Valley High School (Garnet Valley School District): 38th in the state and 1,158th in the country

Bayard Rustin High School (West Chester Area School District): 41st in the state and 1,202nd in the country

Henderson High School (West Chester Area School District): 46th in the state and 1,301st in the country

Upper Dublin High School (Upper Dublin School District): 54th in the state and 1,445th in the country

Methacton High School (Methacton School District): 59th in the state and 1,658th in the country

Penncrest High School (Rose Tree Media School District): 60th in the state and 1,664th in the country

Downingtown High School West (Downingtown Area School District): 65th in the state and 1,831st in the country

Kennett High School (Kennett Consolidated School District): 70th in the state and 1,946th in the country

Upper Merion High School (Upper Merion Area School District): 76th in the state and 2,139th in the country

Springfield High School (Springfield School District): 79th in the state and 2,159th in the country
