Steven Gullo, Paramour’s resident sommelier, knows his wine. He recently placed in the top 27 young sommeliers in the United States Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Sommeliers Competition. In fact, he scored in the top three for the Mid-Atlantic region. Gullo will be competing in the second round of competitions, which will be held in nine U.S. regions between January and March, in hopes of making it to the final round in Sonoma, Calif., in April.
Gullo, who was trained as a chef, takes pride in pairing wines expertly with the innovative menu at Paramour. He has carefully cultivated the restaurant’s award-winning wine list to complement its changing seasonal menus. His current recommendations, include a 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon by Charles Smith that pairs perfectly with Paramour’s rosemary-grilled rack of lamb.
Paramour also offers monthly guided wine tastings. Attendees will learn the proper tasting techniques, explore important grapes, identify key wine styles and determine their own wine preferences. Guests will also have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and ask questions during the tasting with the sommelier. The monthly tastings are $40 per person plus tax and gratuity and include wine samples and tastes of appropriately paired cuisine prepared by the chef. Paramour also offers private wine tasting for social or corporate events. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 610-977-0600.
