Kate Lawson’s Berwyn closet is home to her massive collection of jewelry, much of it semiprecious pieces from many different designers including her own label of jewelry. “My closet is my sanctuary,” says Lawson. “It smells great and can be messy at times. But I feel happy when I’m in there.”
Style: “Unapologetically luxe classic. Sounds a bit ‘momsy,’ but I think it’s chic, feminine and timeless. Like a great tailored coat or a party dress that’s puffy, not cheeky. A great example is my solid pure Italian cashmere sweaters. They just don’t ever go out of style—and with the right accessories, there are endless looks. I consider myself to be on trend, but not trendy.”
Where she shops: “Vivi G. Shoes, Anthropologie and Lululemon, all in Wayne.”
Designers in her closet: Lemlem, Prada, Inverni, DL1961, Ralph Lauren, Calypso.
Most treasured item: “My wedding dress. I may not ever wear it [out of the house] again, but it makes me smile when I look at it.”
She’d love to have: An Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress. “Reverting back to my classic style, I just love the clean lines and the romantic silhouettes of his designs. Puffy, pretty and party-worthy.”
Most sentimental item: “My black satin Prada peep toes given to me by my husband on our first Christmas living together in Manhattan.”
Item from a faraway place: “I have tons of items.
My absolute favorite: Maison Fabre driving gloves I got in Paris with my husband. Not necessarily mom gear, but I love to wear them on our trips to Europe. They make me feel like I belong there.”
Recently added: “DL 1961 Navy Athens Jeans. Even though navy feels like such a classic, I love how the designers have incorporated it into fall, making it feel new and fresh.”
Big splurge: “My Postcard quilted coat from Bergdorf Goodman—pricey, but worth every penny. It’s fox-lined, water resistant and belted. I won’t tell you how much it was because I don’t want to give my husband a heart attack. I wait all fallfor that first frost just so I can wear it.”
Eyeing: “This year, I’m buying an Inverni cashmere, fox-trimmed infinity scarf. Every fall, I get about 10 into the store direct from Florence, and they sell out immediately. I’m going to buy myself one as soon as they come in.”
