The Main Line Shows Its Nova Pride

After the Wildcats’ win over the Tar Heels, our region has come alive like it’s 1985.

Just seconds after junior forward Kris Jenkins’ jaw-dropping buzzer-beating shot, Villanova players and fans swarmed him on the floor of Houston’s NRG Stadium. Confetti rained down on a team that prides itself on its “humble” and “hungry” attitude.

Exhilaration, relief, joy … and, for coach Jay Wright, a measure of disbelief—at least initially. Over in the stands, Rollie Massimino—whose 1985 team owns Nova’s only other NCAA championship—tried to hold back the tears.

Here at home, the energy has intensified and spread. Classes were canceled, and celebration parties are in full swing. Today, the bookstore is the only busy place on campus, with much of its Wildcats merchandise selling out by 10:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for a 3:30 p.m. rally. Players are expected to show at 5. A parade is scheduled for Center City at 1 p.m. Friday.
