Sample some of the region’s most delectable desserts at Sweet Charity on March 20. Now in its 13th year, the much-anticipated event returns in as Chester County Community Foundation’s signature fun fundraiser.
In addition to being a tasty night out, Sweet Charity is also a dessert competition. The finest local dessert chefs gather with their crowd-pleasing creations to compete for three prizes: Most Popular Dessert, Best Presentation, and Professional Judge’s Choice. Guests can vote in the Most Popular category, while judges deliberate the other awards. “The desserts are inventive, creative and out of-this-world delicious,” says Karen Simmons, president and CEO of Chester County Community Foundation. Last year’s Most Popular winner proves that. John Serock Catering’s sweet grilled cheese with strawberry bisque took home the prize.
Dessert entries range from classics to cutting-edge foodie trends. Past entries included maple bacon bread pudding and bacon brownies in the height of the salty-sweet food craze; small lemon-blueberry coconut pies as the mini-wave began; and gluten-free lava cake before that trend took of. The event’s venues are also part of the fun. Guests are greeted by pink cupcake mascots and the aroma of melted chocolate and glazed fruits mingle with coffee, wines and passed hors d’oeuvres, satisfying the need for savory bites, alongside the sweet.
Last year’s Sweet Charity guests also had the pleasure of strolling beneath grand chandeliers and gazing at glass showcases displaying unique antiques and collectibles that would soon go under the gavel at Bunch Auctions and Appraisals. This year’s guests will have the chance to take in the beautiful views of Whitford Country Club’s rolling fairways and delightful sunsets.
More than a dessert tasting, Sweet Charity is a gathering place for those who care about the important work that local charities do. Throughout the event, grants will be given in honor of the winning chefs, to the nonprofit of their choice.
Sweet Charity benefits the Chester County Community Foundation, which grows legacy philanthropy throughout the region. The Community Foundation helps families and businesses become involved in charitable giving by encouraging legacy gifts and increasing awareness of the needs and issues facing Chester County. The Community Foundation holds over 340 funds in trust and annually awards $2.5 million in grants and scholarships.
