From the Eagles’ first ever Super Bowl win to last night’s victory by the Villanova Wildcats, 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for national championship parades in the Philadelphia region.
Today Villanova University officials announced plans to celebrate the men’s basketball team’s 2018 NCAA National Championship win on April 5 with a parade down Philadelphia’s Market Street. The procession will kick off at 20th and Market streets and end in front of City Hall at Dilworth Park. The parade will start at 11 a.m.
Thursday’s parade will travel along Market Street in Center City Philadelphia and end in front of City Hall at Dilworth Park.
Prior to the parade, Villanova University will hold a welcome home celebration for the championship team and coach Jay Wright on April 3 at the campus’ Jake Nevin Field House at 800 E. Lancaster Ave. in Villanova. Festivities will start at 5:30 p.m., with the team arriving around 6:15 p.m.
“If you had told me two years ago that we would be celebrating another national championship today, I honestly don’t know that I would have believed you,” said Villanova’s president, Rev. Peter M. Donohue, in a statement to the university’s students, faculty and staff Tuesday morning. “What a remarkable accomplishment for the players and for Coach Wright and his staff, and what a wonderful time to be a Villanovan!”
