Skylar Raffensperger, the Digital Director and Buyer of Delsette Ardmore, gives tips on all things fashion on the Main Line.
HER STYLE: Functional, fluid, unified—a balance of feminine elegance and tomboy cool. I’m constantly evolving and changing. As I’ve grown up, so has my style.
FASHION AWAKENING: As a kid, I always wanted to wear what I wanted, not what I was supposed to wear. I remember the day the governor was visiting my elementary school and I was one of the students chosen to give a speech. My mom dressed me for the occasion. Dissatisfied with my outfit, I snuck my pink, sparkly “saved for special occasions” shoes into my backpack and put them on once I got to school. I walked out onto the stage bursting with confidence.
WHY FASHION CAPTIVATES HER: The emotional response—the simple reaction I have when I see something I love that really blows me away. It’s as if I’ve found something that’s been missing. That’s also how I feel when wearing something that makes me feel more confident, creative, sophisticated and mysterious. I feel complete and most alive.
INDISPENSABLE WARDROBE ITEMS: The perfect pair of jeans—my favorite is the Danielle Jean by Khaite. And a comfortable pair of flats—I wear Tabi Ballet Flats by Maison Margiela.
FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP: Delsette carries my favorite hard-to-find brands, like Nanushka, Khaite and Martin Grant.
FASHION ICON: It’s hard to pick just one. I admire creative businesswomen like the fashion designers Phoebe Philo and the Olsen Twins.
BEST FASHION FIND: I’ve wanted a Balenciaga City Bag for years. Recently, my mom mentioned that she had some Balenciaga bag tucked away in her closet. She pulled out a black leather city bag, and my jaw dropped.
THOUGHTS ON AGING: I’ve been thinking about aging in relation to the items we own and wear. Age is beauty. It’s the history and story behind our most cherished items.
INDISPENSABLE ACCESSORY: Sunglasses. I never leave the house without them.
FAVORITE FRAGRANCE: Gypsy Water by Byredo.
FASHION NO-NO: Being uncomfortable, and not dressing for yourself.
