Last summer’s bounty may be a distant memory among the current chills of winter, but now’s the time to start planning for the 2014 growing season, especially if you’re joining a local CSA.
The Main Line is home to several community-supported-agriculture programs, including that of Collegeville’s Greener Partners. The 2007-bred, locavore outfit strives to cultivate a better, modern-day food system; offering a 24-week farm-share program is just one step in getting their multiple farms’ food to you.
Whether you sign on to lock in a share for their Collegeville-based Longview Farm or opt for Media’s Hillside Farm, you’ll score a personal bounty of everything you need to eat seasonally from May to October. Memberships typically kick-off with an assortment of fast-growing salad greens and herbs in spring, followed by copious tomatoes and watermelons in mid-season and root vegetables, broccoli and pumpkins as fall approaches.
To make participation in the local CSA membership even easier, Greener Partners has appointed several pick-up locations for you to snag your weekly share in your own ‘hood, including Wayne’s Silverspoon.

The meat-based CSA allows the farm to purchase the chickens and equipment needed to raise them and, in return, you’ll receive pastured, fresh chickens from a local source!
