Shopping Gold Mine

Don’t miss the last two nights of the Shipley School’s 50th-anniversary shopping bonanza.

Last night, I attended the preview party for the Shipley School’s annual shopping bonanza, Shipley Shops, and I can sum up the evening in one word: AMAZING. An unexpected celebrity was even in attendance: Jane Seymour. Word is the legendary actress was there to support her friend, Marlyn Schiff, a Bryn Mawr jewelry designer to the stars.

The committee behind Shipley Shops completely outdid itself this year for the momentous celebration of the annual fundraiser’s 50th anniversary. It was Shipley alum Zoe V.A. Wells who came up with the idea back in 1961 to host a two-day shopping fundraiser for the prestigious school. Since then, “Shops” has grown from a two-day event with 15 local vendors to a highly anticipated four-day shopping tradition featuring 40 vendors. This year’s event boasts 18 new vendors, including Tory Burch, Dubarry of Ireland and Patricia Adams Gifts. The great mix of offerings ranges from jewelry and clothing to home accessories and stuff for the kids.

(From left) Shipley Shops co-chairs Marin Smith and Courtney Bullitt-Daly, with actor Jane Seymour, Shops co-chair Larisa Bevan and Seymour’s good friend, Marlyn Schiff.Plenty of Main Liners flocked to the new booth of Bryn Mawr clothing designer, Vanessa Fox, who had an array of chic dresses and skirts on hand. I loved visiting Tuyet Wong’s booth of handcrafted jewelry. She uses the highest-quality gemstones and pearls to create true statement pieces. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the holidays, check out the oh-so-cute fleece blankets, towels and sweatshirts that can be personalized with a school’s logo, favorite team, or initials at ABC Design.
