You may have heard the buzz about the custom-designed backyard she shed as a place for the lady of the house to escape. Simply put, it’s a female version of the man cave. “I designed a she shed in Charlottesville, Va.,” says Alison Carabasi, owner of Hillbrook Collections. “The woman’s husband was so envious, I had to make one for him, too.”
Based in Unionville, Carabasi’s second-generation business mostly designs custom garden houses built in Lancaster County, with prices starting at $5,000. The exterior of the sheds can even complement the main home. “We build workspaces and shelving to store everything for gardening, as well as outdoor furniture and cushions,” she says.
The sheds are great for whatever your creative pleasure. “I recently created a garden house that’s used as a place where a writer with young children goes to get writing done,” says Carabasi. “It’s a getaway, without having to go too far away.”
