Love yourself this February (and every month of the year) with these four self-care tips from Main Line psychologist Paula Durlofsky.
Most psychologists agree that in order to love others, we need to learn how to love ourselves first and foremost. One of the most important ways we show ourselves love is through self-care. Simply put, it means we matter to ourselves. Here are a few suggestions to help get you started.
Identify self-care practices that work for you. Make a list of the things that recharge your body and soul. Some examples: listening to music, reading, meditating, yoga.
Guard your time. It’s your most valuable commodity—and how you spend it directly affects your mental health. Set aside plenty of time for self-care practices.
Establish boundaries. You may find yourself jumping right in and saying yes to a request without fully thinking it through. Learn how to say no.
Don’t let guilt undermine self-care. Push away the voice inside your head that may be trying to undermine your efforts. When you take care of yourself, you’ll be happier—and those around you will get a happier version of you.
