A graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, Rosa Martinez pursued her love of painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Moore
College of Art, even participating in Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program. “But I needed to pay my tuition, and then I had a baby on the way by the time I was 20 years old,” she says.
So she took a job washing hair at Chez La Rouge in Old City. “And I realized that I loved the creativity and culture of the salon,” says Martinez.
Following jobs at various high-end salons, Martinez opened Salon Rosa M. this past March. Somehow, she still finds time for her husband (a Philadelphia firefighter) and three children. “I have one of the best jobs in the world,” says Martinez. “And I hope to bring that happiness to my clients.”
