Robert McNeil

In 2009, Robert McNeil became chairman of the board of the newly formed Chester County Food Bank. CCFB rose from the ashes of the defunct Chester County Cares, a network of food pantries across the region. What began as a stack of canned food in a two-car garage has grown to include a 36,000-square-foot headquarters in Eagleville, local farms that grow 850,000 pounds of fresh produce every year, 100 partner agencies, 35 food cupboards, one mobile market, 61 meal sites, and over 4,000 volunteers.
Although he just stepped aside as chairman, McNeil still works almost 40 hours a week for CCFB. “We grew so fast that we’re like a 6-foot-2 10-year-old,” he says. “We need to hold up a mirror to the organization and make sure that we’re meeting the needs of the community in efficient ways that will have long-lasting impacts.”
