Restaurant Openings: Liberty Union Bar & Grill, La Bamba & More

PLUS: Melt Down Grilled Cheese pays homage to the childhood favorite in Wayne.

Pub Crawl

There’s been a lot of moving and shaking going on in the bar-and-grill scene of late, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Last month, I reported that Landmark Americana Tap & Grill is replacing The Paddock at Devon. Now, there’s more news—a lot more. The new Liberty Union Bar & Grill has opened in Chester Springs, serving upscale American fare. May 1, a P.J. Whelihan’s Pub and Restaurant will take over the former Bull Durham’s space on Route 202 south of West Chester in Dilworthtown Square. And Flanigan’s Boat House in Wayne is transitioning to JD McGillicuddy’s.

Chef On the Move

La Bamba is the name of the new Mexican BYOB on West Chester’s Gay Street, where Jose Garcia (formerly of La Tolteca) is offering a menu of traditional favorites in a strikingly festive atmosphere. My editor swears by the carnitas, a succulent specialty from Garcia’s Tolteca tenure.

Peace Out

Wayne’s Peace A Pizza is now Melt Down Grilled Cheese, devoted to (one guess) just about any variation of the classic sandwich you can dream up.
