It’s tough to find an eatery that can accommodate beer-drinking sports fans and wine-sipping couples with equal finesse. Paoli’s Redhound Grille aims to do both. Taking over the spacious Paoli Pike digs that last housed the Big Easy, Redhound has already found its way into the hearts of a small group of regulars, with a menu to satisfy both simple and sophisticated palates.
Don’t be put off by the Monday-night steak-and-football specials or the half-off wings on Wednesdays. Co-owners/chefs Shane Magee and Owen Marshall favor organic, local, sustainable ingredients for their salads, sandwiches and entrées. The spinach salad with roasted butternut squash, dried cranberries, Asiago cheese and citrus vinaigrette sounded like the perfect healthy accompaniment to a cool autumn night. Alas, the squash was undercooked, and the ingredients were haphazardly slapped together. The lemony vinaigrette had a nice, fresh flavor, however. The popular chicken-and-mushroom spring rolls with smoked Gouda and a balsamic reduction were decent enough, if a bit bland and a tad greasy.
Better was the juicy burger (veggie and turkey options also available) with earthy hand-cut sweet potato fries. If you’re eating in the dining room, menu items worth a shot include the pan-fried organic chicken breast with leek and mushroom compote, and the seafood risotto.
