Quick Bites

News and notes on the local dining scene.

» Chef of many hats: Though its food has been the recipient of mixed reviews, Ambler’s Dettera (dettera.com) is considered one of the hippest-looking restaurants around. Edgy décor aside, the real reason to check it out now is the arrival of Jeffrey Power, most recently in the kitchen at Ardmore’s A La Maison. With high culinary ambitions to match his talent, Power—whose résumé also includes Blackfish and Dolce Valley Forge Hotel—should give critics a new story line.

» Seasonally inspired: Dave Magrogan’s empire has expanded again with the recent debut of Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar (harvestatgleneagle.com) in Glen Mills. The concept is much like the one behind Grady David’s, his short-lived eatery at Honey Brook’s Waynebrook Inn. It will feature fresh, seasonal foods, with many entrées grilled and some less than 500 calories. Magrogan is also a partner in 2010 Best Restaurant Makeover winner Más Mexicali Cantina (mascantina.com), in the former downtown West Chester home of Coyote Crossing.

» What a difference a year makes: Hard to believe the site of Philadelphia’s Susanna Foo Chinese Cuisine is about to become a Chipotle Mexican Grill. But as long as the chain keeps putting out those great-tasting pork tacos, we’ll try not to complain.
