Q&A: Tuxe Bodywear’s Tamar Daniel

The Ardmore boutique owner shares why she isn’t too interested in trends.

Favorite designers: I love COS in Europe, and BCBG jackets fit me very well. I also find Ted Baker inspiring

Winter trends: I’m not that interested in trends. I’m way more interested in finding a perfect iteration of a concept, such as the ideal black blazer or the best-cut white shirt.

What she takes pleasure in: Finding balance and proportion in an outfit, combining rich textures and patterns, and discovering the perfect piece of the puzzle to pull an outfit together. I guess I’m a textures person. I’m quite obsessive about the feel and fit of a garment.

Personal style: I’m always more inspired by menswear. I like to think about the most precise way to make a statement. Often, it’s about removing one piece of jewelry before you step out Princess Diana’s trick). I focus on fit, texture, and telling a little story.

Go-to casual outfit for a Saturday out: The Gatekeeper button-down white-shirt bodysuit from my line, our slimming black, stretchy pencil skirt, and a crazy Mexican sweater on top.

Go-to outfit for a Saturday night in the city: This never happens—I am always home in my pajamas. If I have to be out on the town, I have a vintage Lanvin LBD, which belonged to my grandmother and doesn’t see the light of day nearly enough, and some killer heels that I can actually walk in. I’d pair that with my trusty Lagos ring and bracelet and a large-face men’s watch. If I’m really feeling fancy, I’ll break out my Falke tights and some Armani red lipstick.

Favorite splurge: I’ll always spend money on an amazing scent.

Favorite thing in her closet: A men’s embroidered jacket from the Shuk in Jerusalem. It has a pinstripe lining and wonderful handwork on the front bib and sleeves. I wear it as a dress, with a belt.

Item that gets the most wear: My Tuxe Advocate bodysuit, which is super-soft and machine washable.
