Q&A: Scout & Molly’s Elena Samane

The Paoli-based fashionista describes her personal style and her tips for winter fashion.

Personal style: I’d describe it as versatile. Over the last few years, I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone and trying different looks. Fashion is fun. Some days, I feel like wearing a graphic tee, ripped jeans and combat boots, and other days a pencil skirt, silk blouse and high heels.

Favorite designers: I really admire the creativity and style of Donna Karan, BCBG, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham. Ever since I opened Scout & Molly’s, my fashion horizons have broadened. I’ve discovered new brands from California and Australia like Stillwater and Somedays Lovin. I fell in love with their Bohemian styles and chic fabrics.

Top winter clothing trends: The ’70s fashion trend is one of my favorites right now, with the flowing silhouettes and pretty patterns. I always loved the romantic look of lace, so I wear tops with contrasting lace inserts for daytime, and lace dresses and blouses for nighttime events. I also like the edgy look that leather gives to a simple shift dress or leggings. New vegan leather is so soft and wears beautifully.

Style icons: My contemporary icons are Angelina Jolie and Blake Lively.

Go-to casual outfit for a Saturday out: Currently, I’m in love with bohemian maxi dresses. They’re so comfortable, flattering, and look great with boots. That, or I’m in my dark-wash skinny jeans, a stylish top and riding boots.

Go-to outfit for a Saturday night in the city: I love to wear dresses and high heels.

Favorite thing in her closet: It’s so hard to choose just one. Among my favorites is a pair of AG Sateen Prima jeans in bitter chocolate—the feel, look and comfort are amazing.
