Kat Robbins’ talent as a mural artist eventually evolved into a career in interior design. From her Wayne headquarters, Robbins strives for aesthetically pleasing environments that are healthy and sustainable. “Green design is important to me,” she says. “Incorporating even small changes can make a substantial difference.”
Design style: Comfortable, eclectic, funky. “I love mixing it up.”
Favorite room in her house: “The great room. My first floor is basically an open space with a kitchen, dining and family lounge. In an effort to keep guests out of my way while I’m cooking, I placed an island between the work area and the rest of the space—but I still have to shoo them away. I’m considering crime-scene tape for my next dinner party.”
Most prized possessions: “Family, friends and my new puppy.”

Designer who inspires her: David Hicks. “His brilliance in using antiques, modern furnishings and contemporary art in the 1960s is unrivaled.”
Favorite design advice: “No matter how much you think you want your renovation or new design, it will rock your world and create anxiety in a way you couldn’t anticipate. With this conscious understanding, stress can be minimized and the true nature of what you want to portray in your home can be realized.”
Color she can’t design without: White. “It’s the canvas we first use to build layers of color and texture.”
Favorite design element: Nature. “So many of the gifts the natural world has to offer can bring a tremendous sense of wellbeing to a living space.”
Favorite room to design: Bathrooms. “They’re small spaces that require total functionality.”
Three words that sum up her design: Sustainable, intuitive, unique.
